War In Your Heart # 31

Victory Through the Victor (continued)

The Son was the Beginning, the Accomplisher, the Object, the Ending of Everything in God's Purpose

Colossians 1:16, 17: For in him were all things created, in the heavens and upon the earth, things visible and things invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers; all things have been created through him, and unto him; and he is before all things and in him all things consist.

The Father sums up all things in Christ both in creation and in redemption. The center and the circumference of the Father's purpose is the Son.

Ephesians 1:10: That in the dispensation of the fullness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him.

Two Aspects of His Sonship Saviourship - Sovereignty

This double aspect of Sonship is brought out so clearly in a prophetic passage of Scripture.

Isaiah 9:6, 7: For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, the everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever.

"Unto us a child is born" - Saviour-Cross-Redeemer.

"Unto us a Son is given" - Sovereign-Throne-Ruler.

A Child - a Saviour

"Unto us a child is born" - born to die as the Saviour. The birth of Jesus Christ was different from the birth of all other persons. His birth was also unique in that He was the only person ever born into the world for the express purpose of dying. He was born as the seed of the woman, whose heel was to be bruised.

Genesis 3:15: I will put enmity ... between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

He was a Child born of a virgin, whose name would be Emmanuel, God with us.

Isaiah 7:14: A virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Emmanuel.

Matthew 1:23: Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

He was a child born as a Saviour, whose name would be Jesus.

The Saviour was so truly "born of a woman" (Gal. 4:4) and "made in the likeness of men" (Phil. 2:7), thus identifying Himself with our human nature that He called Himself by the name Son of Man, more than by any other title. As Son of Man He came down to lay down His life as the world's Saviour.
